I started this blog so that I could express my creativity and connect with people.
A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON ME
I grew up just outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma in Sand Springs. Growing up it was pretty much all about sports for me. I played softball, basketball and was in cheerleading until 8th grade. I loved playing sports! It was fun and challenging and such a great experience being a part of a team.
After high school, I began college at Oklahoma State University – Go Pokes! As I said earlier, it was all about sports for me and therefore I hardly ever thought about my future including college. I knew that I was going to college and I grew up being an OSU fan so that was that and I didn’t think much else about it. On the day of enrollment, I selected Apparel, Design and Production for my degree. I LOVE fashion. I love the creativity of it, the way that clothes can make you feel incredible and unique. I also loved sketching and it seemed like an easy decision. Fast forward a few years and due to some personal reasons, I flunked out and ultimately dropped out of college.
I moved back in with my parents and worked several jobs in retail and customer service.
I thought for a minute that I wanted to get into acting! Movies also have a special place in my heart. It’s such a creative and unique way to connect with others and make them feel something, not to mention telling a story. I had the opportunity to work on the set of Yellow by Nick Cassavetes in Paul’s Valley. I also was given the opportunity to act in some of Mickey Reece’s films here in Oklahoma City. It was an incredible experience and I wouldn’t have changed it for the world! However, I soon decided that my heart was not in acting and films either.
Here I am, a twenty-something, working away at Saks Fifth Avenue and serving at R Bar & Grill, trying to figure out my life and BAM! I met the man I’m going to marry at a friend’s wedding. We dated long-distance for two years. On our two year anniversary, Drew got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was probably the most special moment in the history of my life – EVER! Our Wedding anniversary is October 17th, 2015 and every year so far still feels like the first.
Drew already had a job at Sandia in Albuquerque, New Mexico when we met. After we got married, I moved out to join him. I loved New Mexico! The weather, living outside of Oklahoma for the first time in my life and obviously the food were all incredible. If you haven’t traveled to New Mexico – please do!
While in Albuquerque, my husband encouraged me to finish my college degree. I earned my Associate’s Degree and my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing from Central New Mexico Community College and The University of New Mexico. It felt so good to complete something that I had started so long ago, and both schools were amazing. It was challenging and fun and an accomplishment that I am so proud of. If you are ever questioning going back to school later in life – do it! I was so worried about going back to school as an adult, especially after leaving OSU on a negative note, but it was amazing. I learned so much in school and in life while finishing college at an older age. It felt so good.
After I had finished school, Drew and I decided it was time to move back to Oklahoma to be closer to both of our families. It was always the plan to do that, but the time came so quickly. Albuquerque has such a special place in our hearts. We started our married life together out there, I lost my first dog Chipper after 17 years of being together out there. We got our new fur baby Lucy while we were there. We so loved our friends and the opportunities that were available to us there. It was just filled with so many firsts, so many great memories and I will always love New Mexico for those reasons and many more.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
Fast forward to the present. We currently live in Edmond, Oklahoma. I got my realtor license in March 2019 and have been obsessed with building my business and working for Homestead Realty Co. My husband has a job he loves here. We are close to family and have made new friendships and memories already. We have season tickets to Oklahoma State football and we are loving life and looking forward to an exciting future.
I mentioned earlier about being creative and I’m hoping this blog will help me out with expressing that. Being a realtor is incredible and I love doing it, but it doesn’t exactly let my artistic ability flow. I love crafting and DIY’ing, shopping, reading and challenging myself. I’m also working on myself mentally, emotionally and physically. I hope to share everything that I can here on my blog in hopes of connecting with people locally and online. I mean what is the point of living life if we can’t share our experiences with one another, right?
