After researching for nearly a year now, we have finally found a travel trailer that we can call our own.
It all started when my parents let us tag along on their annual trip to Durango, Colorado. They have a Tiffin Motorhome. It has a pull out sofa bed which is really nice – especially if you’re wanting to tag along on a road trip and not spend any money.
After staying a week with them in their amazing motorhome, we quickly realized that we LOVED camping in the RV and we wanted to get one of our own.
We knew that we didn’t want a huge, Tiffin Motorhome. It is perfect for my parents, but not exactly what we wanted. We liked the idea of towing something behind our car. The next piece of the puzzle that we wanted to narrow down was the size of it. My husband wanted to start out small and I love that idea of starting out small, but I also know that I am slightly claustrophobic and that I needed at least one slide out. We began our search and continued reading through other people’s experiences and advice.
We were so frustrated trying to find a previously owned trailer. Apparently everyone had that same idea. We decided to give up on a used one and save up our money and buy a brand new one when we could. We found a couple of floor plans that we loved, the Forest River Salem 22RBS was our favorite.
So Drew and I go on with our normal lives and we put the idea of getting a travel trailer out of our heads for now. Then, one day, I’m driving around town working and I come across two travel trailers in someone’s yard, listed for sale. After a few days of passing them, I finally stop and take some pictures of the information and the trailers themselves. I should have known that God had a plan for us, and I really need to learn to be patient at some point, but here we are.
We got in contact with the sellers and make an appointment to go see the trailers. Once we saw it in person we were sold on it! It definitely needs some work, but the floor plan was perfect, the AC was replaced in the last year, and everything was in working condition to the seller’s knowledge. We agreed on a price and voila! We have a travel trailer and I will be posting more about it in the future so please send me all of your questions and comments about buying a trailer and renovating it. We purchased a 2014 Forest River Salem 27RKSS.
